THE BCHR NETWORK
The BCHR Network brings together researchers, practitioners and NGO representatives from various fields with the aim of researching and analysing the role of business in conflict situations as well as the violations of human and peoples’ rights and other social and environmental impacts that such involvement may have. It also looks at the potential role of companies in relation to peace building.

Geneva, BCHR Network Annual Meeting 2018
Aim of the BCHR Network
The BCHR Network reflects upon the causes, dynamics and consequences of business involvement in conflict and systematic repression. It analyses existing or potential responses to such involvement in light of the relevant actors’ responsibilities as well as ongoing efforts at the international, regional and domestic levels to develop appropriate norms and responses.

BACKGROUND
The BCHR Network was created at its foundational meeting held on the 19th of November 2015 in Geneva. The idea of creating a research network of this nature arose in autumn 2011 at the "First international conference on business and armed conflict” organized by ICIP in Barcelona.
This conference, along with those held in 2013 (Barcelona) and 2014 (London) served as preparatory conferences to discuss about the focus and activities of the future Network. More than 100 representatives of universities, NGOs and leading research centers in the field of armed conflicts and the promotion of peace have been involved in the definition of the Network and its activities.
Since its foundation in 2015, the BCHR Network meets annually in Geneva, the day after the closing of the United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights.
